This page is called POI (Points of Interest) - not to be
confused with the Hawaiian delicacy. This is the place to
catch our highly coveted movie and restaurant reviews, plus
current Gable Design Group news, such as:
Publications/Awards:
The April 2002 issue of Marketing (a local trade publication)
featured an article written by Tony Gable, called "An
Ode to Organization", focusing on the benefits of working
with an organized client.
Northwest Science & Technology, a full color magazine we produce
three times a year for the University of Washington continues
to win awards from the Puget Sound and International Societies
for Technical Communication. Recent awards include 2000-01
Best of Show in the International Publications Competition
and 2000-01 Distinguished Awards (First Place) for Magazines
and Trade/News Articles. We are very proud of these honors,
and recently completed production of the tenth issue of NWS&T
for this client.
Gable Design Group was recently featured in SAN, a full color
book published in Japan that features a select number of graphic
designers from around the world.
Five logo/identities designed by Gable Design Group were featured
in "The Big Book of Logos", published by David E.
Carter. Included were logos for the Kenny G Miracles Foundation,
cobid.net, Real Doctors, Art Turock & Associates and Sand
Point.
Speaking Engagements:
GDG principal Tony Gable...speaker/introducer and moderator
of the student showcase...will be a featured speaker and emcee
at the 2002 HOW International Design Conference in Orlando,
FL. Disney world may never be the same...

Need a Great Shot?
In need of an image of a grand piano, a Taiko drum or a bagpipe
player? Tony Gable, in conjunction with Seattle photographer
Christopher Conrad, created the "Musical Instruments" CD for
the PhotoDisc Corporation (now known as Getty Images). The
CD (Object Series #34) features 120 images of musical objects
including instruments and people.
Cuba:
Tony Gable recently visited Cuba for a cultural/art/music
tour, which included exposure to the fine arts, cigar factories,
live music performances and Rumba dance lessons!
Restaurants:
In addition to our weekly project production meetings, we
usually have a group lunch (or two) at any one of our favorite
Seattle restaurants. Some of these include Judy Fu's Snappy
Dragon (Maple Leaf), Chinoise and Chutneys (Queen Anne), and
Green Village and House of Hong (great dim sum) in the International
District. Of course a quick pick-up at Ezell's or the Home
of Good BBQ always hits the spot (the studio, also however,
enjoys an occasional low-fat sandwich from Subway).
Movies:
Gable Design Group continues its "Movie Day" tradition
(started in 1987), where the studio takes a long lunch on
a rare slow day to eat popcorn and catch a movie. Sometimes
we are joined by members of other design studios, and recent
outings have included Spiderman (loved it), Star Wars Episode
Two (we miss Chewbacca), and Oceans 11 (yeah, baby). If you
can't sleep at night a good movie to see is Insomjnia. As
far as animation goes, Ice Age and Lilo & Stitch were
good (the kids really liked them), and Tony is still talking
about "Galaxy Quest".
